Bengaluru Civic Body Announces Rs 5,000 Fine for Public Garbage Dumping
Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited has launched strict action against motorists caught dumping garbage in public places. Violators will now face a Rs 5,000 fine and have the same waste dumped outside their homes as part of a public shaming drive aimed at improving city cleanliness.
The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has initiated strict action against drivers found dumping garbage in public places.
The company has announced that violators will now be fined Rs 5,000 and have a tractor-load of garbage dumped outside their homes to shame them publicly.
This initiative which began on Thursday follows the recent Kasa Suriyauva Habba (garbage dumping festival) during which civic officials took strict action against waste-dumping across the city.
During the drive in Ward 29 of Sarvagnanagar BSWML and Bengaluru North City Corporation officials caught several violators and imposed fines on the spot. In one particular incident a man driving an SUV was seen dumping garbage near Kalyan Nagar and then speeding away.
BSWML CEO Kari Gowda confirmed that with the help of traffic police, civic officials traced his home fined him Rs 5,000 and warned him not to repeat the mistake.
Senior officials stated that the city’s intention is to shame waste throwers by dumping the same waste at their doorsteps and charging them for transportation costs to force them to follow the rules.
This move comes after Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao who recently instructed all civic teams in a video conference to intensify action against drivers caught dumping garbage on roadsides and vacant lots.
To further enforce the rules marshals have been ordered to remain vigilant and record videos of violators. Moreover footage from CCTV cameras across Bengaluru will also be used to identify violators.
Officials emphasized the need to take strict action to curb irresponsible waste disposal and maintain cleanliness standards in the city.

East Bengaluru House Fire Turns Out to Be Murder; 18-Year-Old Neighbour Arrested for Killing Software Engineer
A case initially believed to be a fatal house fire in East Bengaluru has now been confirmed as a murder. Police have arrested an 18-year-old neighbour for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 34-year-old software engineer, strangling her when she resisted, and setting her apartment on fire to destroy evidence.
A shocking incident in East Bengaluru initially believed to be a tragic accident caused by a house fire has now been confirmed as a murder. Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for the murder of a 34-year-old software engineer.
It is alleged that he attempted to sexually assault the woman and when she resisted he murdered her in a fit of rage and then set her flat on fire to destroy the evidence.
The victim Sharmila Kushalappa worked at a multinational tech firm. She lived alone in a rented apartment in Subramanya Layout Ramamurthy Nagar.
On the night of January 3rd, a fire broke out in her locked flat. The building owner then informed the fire brigade.
Firefighters broke down the door, extinguished the fire and found Sharmila unconscious inside the apartment.
She was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Initially authorities suspected the death was caused by smoke inhalation or suffocation from the fire.
A report of unnatural death was filed and a detailed investigation was launched.
Significantly forensic examinations and the post-mortem report quickly disproved the initial theory.
Investigators observed injuries on the victim’s body and signs of a struggle inside the flat raising suspicions of foul play.
Furthermore medical opinion later confirmed that Sharmila had been strangled before the fire and that her injuries were inconsistent with burns from the fire.
Based on technical evidence and scientific analysis the police identified the suspect as Karnal Kurai an 18-year-old pre-university student who lived next door to the victim with his mother.
During questioning Kurai reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to the police the accused entered Sharmila’s flat through a sliding window around 9 PM. He allegedly demanded sexual favors.
Alarmingly when the victim resisted, he reportedly pushed her down and covered her mouth and nose causing her to lose consciousness.
She sustained bleeding injuries during the struggle.
Crucially in an attempt to destroy evidence the accused allegedly gathered the victim’s clothes and other belongings, placed them on the bed, set them on fire and fled the scene.
He is also accused of stealing her mobile phone while escaping through the same window.
Based on the confession and evidence the police have registered a case against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder, sexual assault and destruction of evidence.
He has been taken into custody and further investigation into the case is ongoing.

In an official statement released on January 12 the college management said the suspensions would remain in effect until further notice and that a detailed internal inquiry would be conducted.
The suspended staff include four senior lecturers, a reader and a professor from the Oral Medicine and Radiology department.

According to the student’s mother Yashaswini had taken leave due to a medical issue related to her eyes.
Upon returning to college she was allegedly humiliated in front of her classmates for not attending a seminar.
The family also claims she was denied academic opportunities such as participating in seminars and radiology case work causing her immense stress due to the potential damage to her academic record.
Relatives described her as academically bright but emotionally sensitive.
Police have confirmed that a case of unnatural death has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Authorities stated that while a suicide note was found it does not directly name any individual and further action will depend on the evidence that emerges during the investigation.
Following the incident students and family members staged a protest outside the college’s mortuary demanding accountability and stricter measures to prevent such incidents.
