Toll Collection Begins on Bangalore–Chennai Expressway’s Hedigenabele–Sundarapalya Stretch; Rates Finalized for All Vehicle Classes
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised toll rates for the 71-km-long Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway section between Hadiganabele and Sundarpalya. Private vehicles will have to pay Rs 185 to Rs 190 for a one-way journey, with toll rates varying slightly depending on the direction. Toll collection will begin soon, with rates based on distance and four toll plazas set up. Monthly pass options are available for regular commuters. Though the expressway offers smooth travel at speeds of up to 120 kmph, entry of unauthorised vehicles remains a concern, leading the NHAI to deploy additional security guards and impose strict penalties.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised the toll charges for the 71-kilometre stretch of the Bangalore–Chennai Expressway between Hedigenabele (near Hoskote) and Sundarapalya (near KGF).
This segment has been unofficially open to traffic for the past seven months.
The toll collections will now start, and vehicle owners will now have to pay the toll while driving through the stretch of the expressway once the process is fully operational and integrated, and coordination is ensured at the district levels.
The toll breakups for private vehicles are as follows:
- From Hedigenabele (near Hoskote) to Sundarapalya (near KGF), the toll is Rs 185 for a one-way trip and Rs 275 for a round trip.
- In the reverse direction, from Sundarapalya to Hedigenabele, the toll is Rs 190 for a one-way journey and Rs 280 for a two-way journey.
The tolls have been set on the basis of traveled distance, and four plazas have been erected at the following locations: Sundarapalya, Hedigenabele, Krishnarajapura, and Agrahara.
For light commercial vehicles (LCVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), and minibuses:
- The toll from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya is Rs 295 for a one-way trip and Rs 445 for a round trip.
- From Sundarapalya to Hedigenabele, it is Rs 305 for a one-way journey and Rs 445 for a two-way journey.
For larger vehicles such as trucks and buses:
- The toll from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya is Rs 620 for a single trip and Rs 930 for a round trip.
- In the opposite direction, from Sundarapalya to Hedigenabele, the toll is Rs 635 for a one-way journey and Rs 955 for a two-way trip.
- Private vehicles like cars can opt for monthly passes, priced at Rs 6,105 for 50 one-way trips in one direction, and Rs 6,260 for the reverse direction.
The newly built Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, connecting Hoskote and KGF, has been popular among motorists because of the ease of driving, excellent road surface, and maximum permissible speed of 120 kmph.
However, the entry of unauthorized vehicles such as two-wheelers into the expressway from incomplete barriers on both sides of the roads has been a concern, and there have been accidents in the past.
However, the NHAI has stated that extra guards will be deployed at toll plazas to control such activities.
The NHAI has also stated that hefty fines will be levied on such unauthorized entry into the expressway.
