A 32-year-old South Korean businesswoman has accused a ground handling staff member at Kempegowda International Airport of sexual harassment on Monday.

The incident reportedly occurred in the international departures area of Terminal 2. The woman was preparing to return to her country after visiting India on a tourist visa.

According to the complaint the accused approached the woman around 10:45 AM after she had already completed immigration and security checks by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Identifying himself as airport staff he checked her boarding pass and told her there was a problem with her checked-in baggage.

He then asked her to accompany him for what he termed a “manual frisking,” allegedly saying that otherwise the re-checking process would take a long time.

Police said the man then led the woman to a men’s restroom. There he allegedly touched her inappropriately under the pretext of a search.

When the woman protested he reportedly hugged her, thanked her and told her to leave. Shocked by the incident the woman immediately reported it to airport authorities.

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Affan Ahmed (25) a ground staff member working for Air India SATS.

Following the incident he was taken into custody by airport authorities and handed over to the airport police.

Authorities clarified that he had no authority to conduct a physical search. If there were any concerns he should have alerted the CISF or immigration officials.

CCTV footage reviewed by investigators reportedly corroborates the woman’s statement. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

It has been confirmed that the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Further investigation is underway.
